After being overlooked for the Ballon d'Or for the second year in a row, Robert Lewandowski has stated that he believes he is the finest player in the world.

Lewandowski has had another outstanding year for Bayern Munich and Poland, scoring 69 goals in total for both the club and the country.

Despite his incredible achievement in 2021, when he won the Bundesliga and the German Cup, the striker was ignored for the prized award, which was controversially awarded for the record-breaking seventh time by Lionel Messi.

Lewandowski has witnessed Messi (seven times) and Cristiano Ronaldo (five times) be crowned the best footballer in the world during his brilliant career. When asked who he thinks is the better player, Lewandowski seemed upbeat.

In an interview at the Expo Dubai, he declared, 'I pick Lewandowski.'

When asked about his thoughts on this year's Ballon d'Or, the 33-year-old emphasised his own accomplishments in 2021.

He said, 'I've gotten a lot of queries regarding the Ballon d'Or.' 'They cancelled it last year, and I couldn't go since I had already won everything there was to win.' I scored 69 goals in one season this year, so you know... 'I did everything I could because I was injured in the Champions League against PSG and couldn't play. 'However, if I stand in front of the mirror and look at myself, I can say to myself, "You did everything you could, you scored 69 goals, you won the German league, and you can be happy of yourself." I appreciate other players because they are fantastic players, but I also recognise that it is critical for me to be myself and to think positively at all times.'
